Chongqing University is one of the top universities in China which is recognized within both the 211 and 985 projects. It is ranked in the top 30 out of over 1000 Chinese universities and colleges, with a total population of over 57,000. Alongside Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin, Chongqing is based in one of China’s four municipalities and boasts a wealth of attractions, culture and historical sites. Whilst experiencing rapid development and becoming a global major city, the Chongqing region still retains its historical heritage, showcasing much of the traditional culture associated with China.
The university has vast experience in organising summer school courses for overseas students; there are currently over 500 overseas students comprised from a variety of nationalities who take an assortment of courses on campus. International Summer School is designed for non-Chinese speakers, aiming at providing an opportunity for students to improve their Chinese language skills whilst also delivering an excellent insight into Chinese culture and ways of life.

Language Classes
During the program, you will receive 40 hours of language tuition, which will be spread over the duration of the trip. These classes are offered at Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels and the average class size will be 10-15 pupils. It is not mandatory to have any prior knowledge of the Chinese language. The classes will place particular emphasis on oral communication skills and additionally elements of the written language will be introduced.
Excursions & Activities
Chongqing and the surrounding region have numerous places of interest and are rich with culture and beautiful scenery. During the trip, a number of excursions are organised to various historical sites and places of natural beauty. These include visits to the Three Gorges, the ancient town of Ciqikou and the cultural centre of Hong Ya Dong. You can spend the day at the famous Chaotianmen Port on the River Yangtze and also enjoy scheduled visits to World National Heritage sites such as Lotus Cave, Fairy Mountain and Longshui Canyon. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to see the amazing Dazu rock carvings depicting Buddhist and Taoist beliefs through a series of ancient sculptures carved into Chongqing’s hillsides.

The 3 week course costs £550-£600 (Excluding flights). Included in the cost are:

Accommodation
You will stay on-campus at Chongqing University; the accommodation rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, TV, internet, telephone, and a bathroom amongst other facilities.
Eligibility
The trip is welcome to everyone, whether you are a student, post-graduate, taking a gap-year or simply would like to experience some time learning Chinese in a totally different culture. We also welcome international students and are open to a wide range of ages.
